Thanks!

Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday!

Don’t forget to remind your church to set their clocks forward before heading to bed on Saturday night.  Otherwise, it might be a lonely Sunday morning…

Have a great day!

Lessons Learned – Final Thoughts (Tim Ferriss)

This week I’ve been sharing some “Lessons Learned in 2008″ from Tim Ferriss, one of my favorite authors and bloggers.  Here’s some final thoughts:

You don’t have to recoup losses the same way you lose them.

Adversity doesn’t build character; it reveals it.

Related: Money doesn’t change you; it reveals who you are when you no longer have to be nice.

A good question to revisit whenever overwhelmed: Are you having a break-down or a breakthrough?

A mindset of scarcity (which breeds jealousy and unethical behavior) is due to a disdain for those things easily obtained. (Seneca)”

Year End Questions – Part 4 of 4

Happy 2009!  Here’s the fourth question I’m asking myself as I reflect on 2008 and prepare for a great 2009:

Year End Question #4
What do I want to do ‘more of’ in 2009?

As I reflect back on my good, my bad and my contribution in 2008 I find myself asking: what do I want to do more of in 2009?  (Note: I can only ask this question after I’ve answered the ‘less of’ question from two days ago).

In years past, this question has led to greater focus as I’ve decided to do ‘more’ delegation or spend ‘more’ time with my message research team or to take ‘more’ time off than I did in the previous year.

As a wrap up to this mini-series of posts, here’s all four year-end questions:

- What was my best day at work in 2008?

- What was my worst day at work in 2008?

- What do I want to do ‘less of’ in 2009?

- What do I want to do ‘more of’ in 2009?

I hope you’ve found this helpful – decide now to make 2009 greater than 2008!

Nelson

P.S. If you are looking for more ways to make 2009 greater than 2008, check out my resource Developing A One Year Personal Growth Plan by clicking here.

One more week of vacation

I’m starting the second week of our vacation so my blogging will continue to be semi-regular.  But this week I’ve pre-scheduled some of my favorite quotes to share with you.  See you on December 9.

Senior Pastor Coaching Applications Are Now Available

I just posted the latest Coaching Applications for my next live Senior Pastor Coaching Networks. Both will start in January.  One network is at our office here in NYC and the other one will be in the Tampa/St Petersburg area.

Here’s the link to more info and the applications

I know I’ll get a ton of emails asking me to do a network out west.  I’m honored!  I hope you’ll do what dozens of other pastors have done and that is fly to either NYC or Tampa.  I’m just not able to add any other live networks at this time.  Plus the extra ‘balcony time’ will actually increase the impact of the network (but more on that in a future post.

For a bit more on why I do coaching, click here.

If you have any questions about the networks, just let me know.  You can email me or use the Ask Nelson button on the right.

Nelson

P.S. We have also posted new applications for Church Planter Tele-Coaching (starting Dec 2008) and Worship Leader Tele-Coaching (starting early 09).  Just click here for more info.

Catalyst Dessert Anyone?

Are you going to Catalyst next week in Atlanta? I’ll be there with Kerrick, the Journey Teaching Team and the CLI staff.

On Thursday, October 9, I’d like to invite you to a special Church Leader Insights Dessert at 7:00pm at 12 Stone Church!  The church is just a few turns and couple of miles from Catalyst.

Can you join me?

If so, I need an RSVP so I can make sure there’s plenty of NY Style Cheesecake and coffee/beverages for everyone.  To learn more or RSVP your spot, send an email to cristina <at> churchleaderinsights.com and we’ll get you all the details.

I would love to meet you and introduce you to the Church Leader Insights gang and to others pastors in the CLI family. It should be a lot of fun.  (Plus there’ll be some special giveaways of some of our latest resources).

I hope it works out!

Sunday Salsa and Worship Arts Orientation

Today I’m teaching live in Manhattan and its NOT being used as a video message in Brooklyn or Jersey City so it gives me a chance to break out of the screen box for something a bit more creative.

We call it a Salsa Service because of the way the sermon is split into multiple parts by music, testimony, video, etc.  You can read more about a Salsa Worship Order in my post from Thursday by clicking here.

In preparation for this message based on Jeremiah 18 (Jeremiah and the Potter’s House) I was able to visit a local pottery shop, teach part of the message on site and actually handle some clay/pottery.  The shop also gave us some pottery to be used as props on Sunday.

It should be a fun service!

After our third morning service, we have Worship Arts orientation from 2:30 – 4:30pm where we will welcome almost 100 new artists to our team (BTW, most of our artists are not professional artists – the professionals are too busy with Broadway shows on Sundays.  Instead they are business professionals or teachers or regular folks who have a skill or talent they want to use for God).  Jason and his team did a great job with the fall auditions and I’m excited about the future of our worship arts team.  Jason told me on Friday that he is planning a tele-seminar in the future to talk about how you can use an audition process to raise up new artists.  Keep an eye on www.WorshipLeaderInsights.com for all the details.

I hope you have a great day at your church!  I’m off to the first service,

Nelson

P.S. A big thanks to everyone who prayed for our baptism service last Sunday.  We baptized 22 people!  That brings our total baptisms to 130+ for the year and we still have our big November Friday Night baptism to go!
