Oswald Chambers (July 24, 1874 – November 15, 1917) is regarded as one of the top 10 spiritual influencers of the past two centuries. However, if not for his wife, Biddy, we might know nothing of him, and his profound influence on the written word would have been lost.
Biddy Chambers took detailed notes in almost every one of Oswald's teaching sessions. After his sudden death at age 43, she wrote everything he said for publication.
Oswald Chambers founded the Bible Training College in London when he was 26. Then, when World War I broke out in 1915, Chambers suspended operation of the Bible Training College and became a YMCA chaplain in Cairo, Egypt.
He rarely spoke to more than two dozen people at a time, with the exception of some preaching in churches and at conferences, and even those crowds were of moderate size. His eternal impact is even more amazing considering that he was not a large revival speaker, such as Billy Graham. However, what he taught at the Bible Training Center and the YMCA hut became the teachings that so many in the world now value as biblically accurate divine guidance.
Through the writings that his wife so carefully recorded, Oswald Chambers continues to inspire and instruct other Christians to this day.
